- ➤ The Kalla brothers launched a disaster preparedness foundation after helping during last April's flood. The nonprofit will award a $750 scholarship to a high school senior from central Kentucky. LEX 18
- ➤ About 160 people held a silent march Saturday along Capital Avenue to honor Renee Nicole Good, whose death in Minneapolis sparked community concern and reflected local views on immigration enforcement. Organized by Capital Indivisible (a local activist group), participants carried tribute signs and messages. The State Journal

- ➤ Dunbar Theatre will present Chicago: The Musical featuring Iris Henning & Piper Perry. The production is set to offer a fresh take on the classic performance to local audiences soon. WKYT

- ➤ At an open house Monday, Jan. 12, district leaders and engineers reassured parents that Latonia Elementary is safe following the gym's partial collapse on Dec. 31, which led to online classes, with no injuries reported and adjustments made for student routines. LINK nky
- ➤ Kentucky lawmakers have proposed changes to teacher communication + student enrollment rules to update education guidelines in local schools. The proposal will be reviewed by officials and could reshape protocols for upcoming school terms. WKYT
- ➤ Donnevin Bunker, a sixth grader at Second Street School, was nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum: Explore STEM, a weeklong event where he will explore science, technology, engineering and math (he is the son of Rachel and Brandon Bunker). The State Journal

- ➤ Larry Bush received a proclamation from Mayor Layne Wilkerson on Saturday marking Jan. 10 as Larry Bush Day. He has led the Youth Bengals since 2009 and took over the organization in 2015. The State Journal

- ➤ Kentucky Men’s Basketball coach Pope announced that point guard Jaland Lowe will miss the rest of the season after he will have shoulder surgery and begin a six-month rehab following his injury on Jan. 10 at a game against Mississippi State. WKYT
