GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Frankfort officials, Franklin County Fiscal Court and Frankfort Independent Schools are reviewing an industrial revenue bond proposal to renovate Capital Plaza Hotel. The county will vote on it Wednesday while the city board meets Jan. 26 to consider joining a tax abatement plan that may boost local hotel revenues. The State Journal
- ➤ Kentucky residents will benefit from tax changes in 2026 as the state income tax rate falls from 4% to 3.5% while new federal rules exclude part of tip and overtime income and offer extra deductions for seniors; tax experts advise seeking professional guidance. WKYT
- ➤ Kentucky Power wants to use long-term debt to keep electricity rates lower by issuing bonds, pending new legislation. Company officials say the bonds (for projects like a cooling tower replacement and new natural gas generation) may be available by year-end, which could limit future rate hikes for its 162,000 customers.
