COMMUNITY NEWS

  • God's Pantry Food Bank is preparing for severe winter weather that may require rescheduling of its mobile pantry distributions — officials are monitoring conditions at its Innovation Drive facility as it serves nearly 280,000 residents across 50 counties.  LEX 18
  • First Baptist Church on St. Clair Street voted not to accept a FEMA grant that demanded immigration cooperation — a decision that shows its commitment to remain a safe space. Instead, it used an SBA loan for flood cleanup and has received strong community support.  The State Journal
  • Finn Lowe, an 8-year-old with autism, will benefit from a yard sale fundraiser held at First United Methodist Church (213 Washington St.) on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will raise funds to help secure a service dog for his daily safety.  The State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chad Hedrick, a former reporter who grew up watching the show in eastern Kentucky, will compete on Wheel of Fortune airing at 7 p.m. on WKYT today; he prepared by practicing word puzzles and said his appearance is a dream come true (a point of local pride).  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Beshear announced that teams from KYTC, state parks, and Emergency Management are preparing for severe winter weather expected later tonight until Sunday. Road crews will pre-treat roads and state parks will serve as warming centers (alerts advised) to help keep residents safe.  92.7 The Wave
  • Sen. Lindsey Tichenor filed a bill that will require local school districts to post budget proposals, monthly financial reports and vendor payments online so that parents and taxpayers can easily track education spending. The measure aims to boost fiscal transparency in public schools.  The State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Frankfort High beat Frankfort Christian Academy 59-44 Tuesday at TFCA after a close match where both teams played without key starters & adjusted their rotations to build a late advantage.  The State Journal
  • Franklin County’s girls basketball team won 67-60 against Walton-Verona at FCHS on Wednesday, with three players scoring double figures. Makiyia Wheeler led with 15 points - La’Kyiah Taylor and Addilyn Taylor also contributed to the win.  The State Journal
