COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau warned Kentuckians on Tuesday that scammers are targeting winter storm victims by impersonating power companies and government agencies. Residents are advised to verify calls with providers and report any suspicious activity on the scam tracker website.  WKYT
  • Multiple warming shelters are open to help residents after about 5,000 customers lost power in Pulaski County due to dangerous overnight temperatures, and crews are prioritizing downtown roads while community advocates in Franklin County work to support those in need amid the winter storm.  WKYT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kasia Bradley and Anna Claire Rogers from KSU are improving the Thorobred Trail for woodpeckers by installing nest boxes and removing invasive plants - their work has increased bird activity and is supported by a National Wildlife Federation grant, with ongoing monitoring to restore native habitat.  The State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. Cassie Chambers Armstrong filed Senate Joint Resolution 54 to expand enrollment in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library by directing state agencies to explore linking sign-up with birth certificate completion (a measure prompted by the singer’s recent 80th birthday) with progress reported by Nov. 1.  Kentucky Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Donate Life Kentucky Trust had a record year in 2025 with over 75,000 Kentuckians joining the registry and more than $1.7 million raised to support lifesaving transplants. In 2026, the trust will extend donor education — providing 24/7 information access to better support transplant patients and donor families.  Kentucky Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Franklin County’s boys basketball team took a 63-51 win over Frankfort (Friday at F.D. Wilkinson Gymnasium) while holding a lead from 6:26 left in the first quarter and improved to 2-1 in district play.  The State Journal
  • Frankfort's girls basketball team fell to Franklin County 72-23 Friday at F.D. Wilkinson Gym (after a close start) and is set to play Doss Tuesday and Shelby County Wednesday.  The State Journal
