COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Franklin County firefighters rescued Shooter, a horse trapped in a frozen pond Friday. Multiple teams from Engine 10, Engine 6, Rescue 10, Frankfort Fire EMS, Emergency Management and Anderson County animal rescue freed the animal safely without injury.  LEX 18
  • Downtown Frankfort Inc. will host a Chocolate Stroll on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. at the Capital City Museum. Sponsored by Traditional Bank, the event offers chocolate treats from Rebecca Ruth Candy Factory, live harp performance by Elaine Cook & free shuttle service from 5 to 8 p.m.  The State Journal
  • The Capital City Activity Center at Meals on Wheels in Frankfort will host a full week of events starting Monday, featuring billiards at 8:30 a.m., bingo sessions, exercise and drum classes, knitting help, and a Friday Free Food drive for pantry needs.  The State Journal
  • Paul Sawyier Public Library offers a busy week of programs for adults and youth starting Monday at 6 p.m. with Alzheimer’s Association discussions, career support, art workshops and readings, plus a Heritage Lecture on Saturday (Feb. 7) about Harry Mordecai, all held at the library.  The State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Frankfort-based Mary Hamilton will tell stories at Paul Sawyier Public Library at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, to kick off the 2026 Story by Story season; the acclaimed storyteller (with 40 years of experience) will share her unique narratives.  The State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michelle Gross, a middle school teacher with 22 years’ experience at Spencer County Middle School, is a finalist for the National Teacher of the Year award by the Council of Chief State School Officers and will travel to Washington, D.C. for interviews — the winner is to be announced this spring.  Kentucky Today
