COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Together Frankfort will hold a Town Hall on flood mitigation at the Paul Sawyier Library River Room on Mar. 5 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Community members can attend to hear local leaders, scientists, and professionals discuss plans to reduce river flooding.  The State Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cold weather has hurt local restaurants in central Kentucky as customers stay home; Ramsey’s Diner near Masterson Station and downtown Frankfort's Brown Barrel report half their usual traffic + very low tips, though managers say business will pick up next Saturday for Valentine’s Day.  WKYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Senate approved two education bills that increase school district budget transparency and give more authority to the JCPS superintendent; both measures now head to the House for review.  Kentucky Today
  • Gov. Andy Beshear's plan to expand public pre-K is facing criticism as GOP lawmakers warn that its current form may not be funded in the upcoming two-year budget and could hurt local childcare providers. A meeting in Bowling Green Tuesday deepened concerns while supporters say the proposal will help more children be ready for kindergarten.  Louisville Public Media

  • EMTs gathered at the Capitol Annex on Tuesday urging lawmakers to pass House Bill 447 (HB 447) so insurers reimburse ambulance agencies at local rates, lowering taxpayer costs and keeping services operational in nearly 92% of counties.  LEX 18
  • Kentucky State Police is offering Trooper Teddy Bears for Valentine's Day until Feb. 16 for $20 each; the first 50 online orders receive a free sticker and pencil (all proceeds fund the Trooper Teddy Project helping children facing trauma), officials say.  Kentucky Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Franklin County’s girls basketball team defeated Western Hills 56-55 at WHHS Friday — the Lady Flyers remain undefeated at 4-0 in district play while Western Hills, now 2-2, readies for its next match.  The State Journal
  • Franklin County’s Luke McDonald scored 22 points and hit six 3-pointers in Friday’s win over Western Hills, earning him the Traditional Bank Athlete of the Week honor. The Flyers improved to a 3 to 1 district record and will play at home today and travel Friday.  The State Journal
