- ➤ Kentucky flower farmers are offering fresh local bouquets for Valentine's Day by selling blooms from farms like Wild Roots in Harrodsburg through the Kentucky Flower Market, so shoppers support domestic growers+ enjoy longer-lasting florals. LEX 18
- ➤ On Saturday, the Kiwanis Club of Frankfort will host its Valentine’s Day pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Franklin County High School cafeteria with Traditional Bank as title sponsor + proceeds benefiting local children and youth programs. The State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rep. James Tipton of Taylorsville is sponsoring House Bill 497 to repeal the free tuition waiver for Kentuckians 65 and older that has been in place for 50 years. Some university communities caution that losing the benefit may force seniors off campus. LINK nky
- ➤ Kentucky lawmakers are advancing House Bill 574 to provide universal pre-kindergarten for all four-year-olds, beginning with families earning 160% of the federal poverty limit (designed to reduce learning gaps and help working parents). WKYT
- ➤ Kentucky State University will offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Aquatic Science focused on sustainable management. Approved by the CPE on Jan. 30, the program uses hands-on learning and internships at its Aquatic Research Center (33 ponds and labs) to prepare students for careers in water and food systems. - ➤ Attorney General Russell Coleman announced that the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission approved $5.8 million to fund phase two of the youth-led drug prevention program Better Without It (BWI). The program will expand in-person engagement through schools and community organizations statewide. The State Journal
- ➤ The Kentucky Department of Agriculture will showcase its Raising Hope program at the 60th National Farm Machinery Show (at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville) from Wednesday to Saturday, offering health screenings and farm safety demos to help farmers and their families stay healthy.
