🎓 Education
Kentucky State University is launching a new BA in Public Policy in Fall 2026.
The program, approved on Jan. 30, prepares students to learn how laws and policies shape daily community life.
Capital Day School, celebrating its 71st anniversary, is set to offer hands-on spring experiences for students through field trips and an educational journey to Jekyll Island.
Parents will be invited to a celebration on March 14 (6 to 9 p.m.) at The Foundry to bid on auction items benefiting the school.
🏛️ Government
After January’s winter storm, drivers in Frankfort face potholes as KY Transportation crews (using cold mix asphalt) patch roads and urge motorists to slow down while repairs in nearby counties continue over the next several weeks.
Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell outlined his 2026 plans from his farm (in Garrard County), aiming to boost local markets by easing school and hospital food sourcing and expanding agritourism.
He supports Senate Bill 5 to remove buying barriers and enhance profitability for Kentucky farmers.
Kentucky State Police trooper Matt Gayheart (of Post 13) tied with trooper Jonathan Houk (of Post 15) after predicting a 24-17 final for Super Bowl 60.
Each post will receive $300 to fund an upcoming Christmas shop event.
🏥 Health
Subsidy changes led to fewer Kentuckians insured through kynect; about 89,000 are enrolled for 2026, down from 97,000 last year, according to Kentucky Voices for Health (director Priscilla Easterling).
The Senate has not extended the subsidies, and experts worry that rising premiums will make future coverage harder for families.

No. 18 Kentucky baseball will start its 2026 season with a three-game series at UNC Greensboro on Friday at 4 p.m. Right-hander Jackson Jelkin (returning from Tommy John surgery) will pitch on opening day.
