COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rewriting Stories, a central nonprofit, supports single moms by offering monthly Single Mom University sessions plus providing childcare and a meal. The program covers topics like finances, parenting, and wellness, giving hundreds of local moms a space to build community.  LEX 18

CULTURE NEWS

  • Renovation at the Grand Theatre continues as workers update the space and sell seat dedication plaques for $250 each to help cover operating costs. The project—funded by a $1.5 million bond—began Jan. 19 and will add new seating and LED stage lights, aiming for mid-July completion.  The State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The House filed two bills this week to help school districts recover lost in-person learning days after a severe winter storm—one bill adds 10 nontraditional instruction days while the other offers a variable schedule to make up for days missed.  LEX 18
  • The FCHS Archery Club meets in the school café on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. to practice archery and build focus under sponsor Mr. Todd Bailey (guiding the students as they hone their skills).  The State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill to add a pause in procedure for organ donation was filed in the House by Majority Whip Jason Nemes (R-Middletown) and referred to the Health Services committee on Feb. 4. It would require a full reassessment by medical staff before donation if concerns about neurological status arise.  Kentucky Today
  • A mental health bill to update statutes for treating mental illness won approval from the House Health Services Committee in Frankfort. Sponsored by House Majority Whip Jason Nemes and co-sponsored by Kim Moser, the bill gives judges a third release option and will move to the full House for further review.  Kentucky Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Frankfort native 25-year-old Nicole Stanfield suffered a SCAD heart attack last year and now follows a rigorous cardiac rehab and treatment plan with an upcoming MRI to monitor her condition. She shares her story to help others recognize heart attack symptoms and value each day (supported by her family).  The State Journal
