- ➤ Kentucky Press Association has named Tim Timmons as its new executive director, effective March 15 (he brings over 40 years of publishing expertise) to guide local journalism through industry changes. Kentucky Today
- ➤ The Capital City Activity Center is offering a busy week of events starting Tuesday with billiards, chair volleyball, knitting and exercise sessions, plus tech and historical talks later in the week, while remaining closed Monday for President's Day. The State Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Tibetan Buddhist monks spent the week creating a sacred Medicine Buddha sand painting at the Paul Sawyier Public Library and dismantled it on Friday to show that nothing lasts forever. They then led a group to the Kentucky River where the colorful sand was poured to share healing energy. The State Journal
- ➤ Rev. Ron Moore Jr. of First Corinthian Baptist Church published the second column in his series 'The most important message Jesus ever taught' on Saturday, Feb. 14, explaining how focused Bible study can overcome distractions (he stresses that thoughtful reading strengthens faith). - ➤ Paul Sawyier Public Library is closed Monday for Presidents’ Day, while Tuesday offers a Tween and Teen Craft session at 4:30 p.m. with Yarn Octopi and a discussion on race at 5:30 p.m. Later, events for families and adults include PokéClub, yoga, and Egg Carton Snowmen on Saturday. - ➤ Kentucky State University’s new study shows that the combination of annonacin and 2-DG reduced lung cancer cell growth in lab tests. Led by Dr. Avinash M. Tope, the research builds on the university’s pawpaw work (NSCLC focus) and calls for further testing to refine dosage and safety. The State Journal
