COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wetherby Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will host its 50th anniversary banquet and fundraiser on Friday, March 6 at the Kentucky State University Harold R. Benson Research Facility in Frankfort (doors open at 6 p.m.). Tickets must be purchased in advance as no walk-ups will be available.  The State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Frankfort schools are mourning after an RCHS student passed away; Supt. Ford released a statement offering condolences and outlining plans to review counseling services (to help students cope with the loss).  92.7 The Wave
  • Kentucky lawmakers filed House Bills 631 and 635 to give school districts extra options to recover missed school days from winter closures. Rockcastle County Schools used nine of 10 non-traditional days so far (school ends May 22 if no closures occur) and educators say the measures can ease scheduling challenges.  WKYT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Spring Wildfire Hazard Season is in effect until April 30, and state officials urge extra caution by banning burning (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) within 150 feet of woodland or brushland to protect local outdoor spaces.  Kentucky Today
  • After foggy Monday weather with low temperatures, Tuesday will be milder in Frankfort as southern winds bring low 60s and dry skies, though strong winds and a storm threat approach Thursday and cooler temperatures may return by the weekend, so residents should keep safety plans ready.  WTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Frankfort Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Advisory Board will hold a public meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Juniper Hill Park’s Central Office at 800 Louisville Road. For more details, call the Parks office at 502-875-8575.  The State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 41st District basketball tournament will start next week at F.D. Wilkinson Gymnasium where Frankfort Christian Academy girls play Frankfort at 6 p.m. + TFCA boys face Western Hills at 8 p.m., with Tuesday games for top seeds and championship contests on Friday.  The State Journal
  • Franklin County boys basketball beat Frankfort 66-55 Friday at FCHS in a close game that underscored the team’s strong effort.  The State Journal
  • Franklin County’s girls basketball team defeated Frankfort 87-11 on Friday at FCHS to finish 5-1 in district play, and they will host the 41st District tournament next week at the F.D.- Wilkinson Gymnasium.  The State Journal
