COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 7th annual Easter egg hunt at Lakeview Park will hide 15,000 eggs at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28. Families can pre-register by age group and join the free event supported by Traditional Bank + local groups.  The State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Franklin County Career and Tech Center hosts HOSA every Wednesday for high school students interested in healthcare careers. The club (sponsored by Kathy Meador) offers leadership training, conference attendance and hands-on learning for future medical professionals.  The State Journal
  • Gov. Beshear and the Kentucky State Police encourage 16- and 17-year-olds to apply for the free weeklong Youth Academy Program designed to build leadership and law enforcement skills; the camp runs June 28–July 2 at Trooper Island Camp on Dale Hollow Lake (applications close May 14).  Kentucky Today
  • Adair Circuit Clerk Dennis Loy supports Donate Life Kentucky Trust initiatives that include a $20,000 scholarship program (applicants due by April 6) and the debut of Heart of the Motor, a short documentary paired with classroom tests in local high schools.  92.7 The Wave

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its meeting on Friday, Feb. 20, the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approved $700,317 to help local farms grow. The funds will support projects such as mobile X-ray upgrades and new cattle facilities (in Scott, Bath, Wayne and Fayette counties) to boost rural development statewide.  92.7 The Wave
  • Governor Beshear ordered flags at all state office buildings to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, March 7 in honor of civil rights leader Jesse Jackson + who died Feb. 17 at age 84.  WKYT

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security warns that a synthetic drug called cychlorphine, 10 times stronger than fentanyl, has been detected in central Kentucky; first responders and healthcare professionals are urged to exercise extreme caution and inform those in recovery that Narcan (an overdose reversal drug) might be less effective.  WKYT
  • The Kentucky State Police Angel Initiative gives individuals struggling with addiction a safe path to treatment by connecting them with resources at any state police post. Officials report that 281 people have already received help.  WTVQ
