ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Power said its new cooling tower at Mitchell will cost Kentucky customers $3 more per month than West Virginia customers due to cost recovery methods & fewer service users. The company requested a 12% rate increase by 2027 amid customer concerns. Louisville Public Media
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky State University now accepts Common App so students can apply easily. The school saw a 34% enrollment rise from fall 2024 and welcomes first-year (fall 2026) and transfer applicants, with transfer applications opening in March. The State Journal
- ➤ Leadership Kentucky is asking for nominations for its 2026 leadership class and invites local community members to apply by March 16 through its online form. The program will hold seven three-day sessions around the state that focus on economic development, arts, education, and healthcare. LINK nky
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Senate Health Services Committee passed a bill that removes a residency rule for international doctors to help ease the doctor shortage in rural areas. Supporters say the change could boost care access, and the bill now heads to the full Senate. Kentucky Today
- ➤ A Kentucky lawmaker filed House Bill 729, named Jimmie's Law after a woman who suffered liver failure from a compounded weight loss drug, to require licensing and inspections for drug compounding businesses. Officials say the bill will strengthen drug safety and oversight in our state. LEX 18
- ➤ The Kentucky House passed House Bill 422, known as Logan’s Law, with a 93 to 1 vote & it will move to the Senate for debate. WKYT
- ➤ A Louisville lawmaker sponsored a resolution in Frankfort on Tuesday to expand Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library statewide. The Senate Committee approved Joint Resolution 54, directing state departments to boost enrollment in the free book program (for children birth to five). WKYT

- ➤ Franklin County’s girls basketball team beat Frankfort 64-16 Tuesday at F.D. Wilkinson Gymnasium and will face the winner of Wednesday’s Western Hills-Great Crossing game for its 13th straight district championship on Friday. The State Journal
