EDUCATION NEWS

  • Frankfort lawmakers passed House Bill 67 on Wednesday morning, clarifying teacher-student communication rules after confusion from the previous law. The bill expands exceptions for translation services, broader family members, coaches, and summer student workers while allowing public social media posts.  WKYT
  • Good Shepherd Catholic School will host The Great Gala 2026 on Saturday, Mar. 21 at the Kentucky State University Research Farm. The 1920s speakeasy-themed fundraiser will offer casino games, a buffet dinner and raffles to raise $50,000 for school programs.  The State Journal
  • The Kentucky Senate passed a bill that will reward eligible parents and child care providers with $2,000 if they help prepare children for kindergarten. The three-year pilot will run from Jan. 1, 2027 to July 31, 2029 and is managed by the University of Kentucky College of Education.  LINK nky
  • The 2026 Kentucky Junior Chef competition is now open as announced by Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell on Thursday - students can form teams and submit recipe concepts by May 30, with the state event scheduled for Nov. 12-13 in Lexington.  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Andy Beshear announced a new partnership (for National Consumer Protection Week) between the Kentucky State Police and the Stop Scams Initiative to share resources and educate residents on spotting and avoiding scams.  Kentucky Today

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bluegrass Realtors noted an uptick in central Kentucky real estate activity, with increased buyer & seller interest fueling market growth. The report suggests more housing options may soon be available for local buyers.  WKYT

SPORTS NEWS

  • TFCA’s Abby Moore finished third in the 200-meter dash and led local competitors at the state indoor track championships on Tuesday at Norton Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, while other athletes including Helen Clark and Maddie Starkey placed in top events.  The State Journal
  • Local high school basketball players received 11th Region all-region honors on both the girls and boys sides. Western Hills’ Malia Campbell made first team while Franklin County’s LaKyiah Taylor took second, and players from WHHS, FCHS and Frankfort High earned honorable mention and academic recognition.  The State Journal
