BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kentucky Utilities is upgrading the grid across the state with 2,000 smart devices now and will add 2,000 more over four years to cut outage times by 30% while replacing wooden poles with steel — a step to improve reliability during severe weather.  LEX 18

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Kentucky Utilities will apply bill credits to customers overcharged during an interim rate hike that began in January 2025 while awaiting regulator decisions. The credit amount will depend on energy usage and will appear on bills by Apr. 17.  WKYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Frankfort High senior Addison Baker (recipient of the Amici Linguarum K-12 Student Award and WesBanco Student of the Week) plans to attend Midway University for nursing while interning at Frankfort Regional Medical Center as her Spanish teacher, Melony Martinez, praised her language dedication.  The State Journal
  • Kentucky Senate passed a resolution to boost enrollment in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library by urging state agencies to explore sign-up opportunities (for example, with birth certificates). The measure targets foster care and low income households and now awaits action by the House.  WTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A case before the Sixth Circuit challenges the law that makes even an ounce of home-distilled whiskey a felony. If ruled in favor of the plaintiff, the decision could soon allow personal distilling and boost bourbon innovation locally — experts say it may reshape the industry.  WKYT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Franklin County’s boys basketball team lost to Frederick Douglass 61-35 in the 11th Region tournament at Eastern Kentucky University on Thursday — Douglass will face Madison Central in the semifinals on Sunday.  The State Journal
  • Franklin County’s Delano Collins & Shamari Aitken placed second at the Class 2A State Track & Field Championships at Norton Sports & Learning Center in Louisville on Thursday, Mar. 6 with close finishes in the 55-meter dash and shot put.  The State Journal
