COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Frankfort Mustangs Club held its 20th annual Pony Round Up yesterday to fund community organizations—member Sandy Moore donated a check to L.I.F.E. House Shelter Manager Chris Musinski, who said the shelter now houses about a dozen cats available for adoption.  The State Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Kentucky drivers now see gas prices above $3 a gallon, with AAA reporting an average of $3.13 and some commuters paying about $20 extra on each fill-up — experts warn that increasing costs may continue as summer driving season approaches.  LEX 18

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Salato Wildlife Education Center will reopen tomorrow at 9 a.m. in Frankfort, offering native wildlife exhibits + outdoor walking trails while the first 100 visitors receive a free poster.  WTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Kentucky soldier from Glendale died on March 8 at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia from wounds sustained in an enemy attack. Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington + a member of the 1st Space Battalion supported Operation Epic Fury, and his death is under investigation.  LEX 18

HEALTH NEWS

  • During Women's History Month, the Kentucky Commission on Women reported that nearly 17% of women live in maternity care deserts even as 92% of women aged 18-44 are insured and diabetes rates match national levels. Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman urged women to seek care and follow up when needed.  LEX 18

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday night, Dunbar’s girls basketball team beat Franklin County (58-56) in the regional semifinals at Eastern Kentucky University. The young Lady Flyers fought hard from a 3-7 start but could not hold their final lead.  The State Journal
