COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kentucky State Parks will open 20 campgrounds on March 13 for the spring camping season while some sites remain closed for renovations (Taylorville Lake, Cumberland Falls, Jenny Wiley) or flood repairs as work continues on additional upgrades. Campgrounds operate through mid-November with Camper Appreciation Weekend on April 24-25.  92.7 The Wave

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents are urging lawmakers to change state rules so homeschool athletes can join state sports — over 2,000 parents signed a petition supporting HB 421 — which would let these students compete on local teams in future events.  LEX 18
  • The Salato Wildlife Education Center opened its 2026 season Tuesday, March 10 just west of Frankfort, inviting families to explore over 40 native animal species, engage in daily educational programs and view its new Healthy Hunting Grounds exhibit that explains hunting’s role in conservation.  Kentucky Today

FINANCE NEWS

  • A Hopkinsville woman won a $500,000 prize on a $20 scratch-off ticket while shopping at a new grocery store—she received $362,500 after taxes when claiming the win at the Lottery headquarters in Louisville. Kroger earned $5,000 for selling the ticket, and the win will help her support her family.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Frankfort Public Works Director Sara Anderson answered Monday’s work session questions on recycling rules, explaining that blue lid bins accept only select items and advising residents to use the FrankWaste app (for schedule updates and acceptable materials); she noted that fee changes and service privatization are under review.  The State Journal
  • Barbados Consul General Rudy Grant visits Frankfort today to hold talks on diplomacy and leadership organized by local students and young professionals. He meets with state economic and legislative officials and speaks at a free program at 7 p.m. in Room 191 at the UK Gatton College of Business (UK).  The State Journal
  • The Office of Kentucky State Budget Director said February’s General Fund receipts fell 0.6% to $970.8M while Road Fund collections dropped 11.3% to $131.5M, marking the lowest Road Fund month in FY26 (data through eight months show overall revenues down 1.1%).  Kentucky Today

  • TFCA’s Helen Clark was named Traditional Bank Athlete of the Week after earning an all-district cheer team spot during the basketball tournament and finishing sixth in two track events at the state meet—her performance capped a season of record improvements.  The State Journal
