CRIME NEWS

  • During a five-day operation from March 10 to March 14, ICE detained 81 people accused of being in the U.S. illegally—25 face charges for criminal offenses and 56 remain in detention awaiting immigration proceedings.  WKYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky launched its first Agriculture Education Week to teach students about diverse careers in agriculture and help them understand where their food comes from. The initiative—led by Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell, Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman, and Education Commissioner Robbie Fletcher—is set to run through March 21.  Kentucky Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will work with local officials to start controlled burns on Wildlife Management Areas in several counties throughout March and April to improve habitat and lower wildfire risk. They will close parts of properties during one- or two-day burns and may postpone work if weather conditions are not safe.  92.7 The Wave

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Disaster Recovery Center has opened at Irvine City Hall, 101 Chestnut St. in Irvine to help survivors of severe storms, flooding and landslides from February. The center is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sundays and offers assistance from FEMA and state agencies.  Kentucky Today
  • House Bill 695 passed both the Senate and House and now sits on Gov. Beshear’s desk—this bill would require able-bodied Medicaid recipients without dependents to report their work status, and lawmakers will reconvene on March 27 and March 28 to consider a veto override if needed.  WKYT
