CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Kentucky Commission on Women hosted the Women’s History Month Celebration at the Capitol Education Center on Wednesday, where Gov. Andy Beshear and Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman recognized local achievements and unveiled Ouita Michel's portrait (a celebrated restaurant owner and James Beard nominee who recently survived breast cancer). The State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky State University will work with state lawmakers to transform into a leading polytechnic institution over the next five years (the plan includes a $50 million Health Sciences Building and up to $50 million for campus upgrades) while keeping its historic mission. LEX 18
- ➤ The Kentucky House passed Senate Bill 101 on Wednesday to protect teachers and school staff by requiring mandatory expulsions and new reporting rules for violent incidents (including at bus stops). The bill now returns to the Senate with amendments that allow early termination of an expulsion under defined conditions. Kentucky Today

- ➤ Governor Beshear ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff today in honor of Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, who died on March 8 after sustaining injuries during an enemy attack at Prince Sultan Air Base; the governor urged all Kentuckians to join in the tribute. LEX 18
