CRIME NEWS
- ➤ US-60/Frankfort Road in Woodford County has been closed in both directions for a law enforcement investigation with crews expecting the closure to last several hours and drivers advised to use Steele Road to Old Frankfort Pike as an alternate route. WKYT
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in February was 5.3 percent—unchanged from January yet 0.6 percent higher than last February—according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics. The state’s labor force grew by 5,210 individuals and employed numbers rose by 6,371 while unemployment fell, reflecting a rebound in hiring from the end of last year. Kentucky Today

- ➤ Kentucky Gov. Beshear signed a bill on Wednesday to create the Film Office that will train local film workers and promote the Bluegrass as a film destination— the law will work with a seven-member council and takes effect July 1. FOX 56
- ➤ The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is upgrading its system to let 15-year-olds earn driver’s permits now that House Bill 15 is effective. Applicants can schedule appointments starting April 2 and gather required documents — a birth certificate, Social Security card, and school form — to prepare for the written permit test. - ➤ Kentucky driving instructors are receiving many calls after Governor Andy Beshear signed a new law lowering the permit age to 15, effective immediately. Instructors say parents must now prepare younger teens for driving since permits require adult supervision until they turn 16. WTVQ
- ➤ On the second-to-last day of the legislative session, college students rallied at the Capitol rotunda in Frankfort while lawmakers prepared to override vetoes and debate a bill on college diversity. Governor Beshear vetoed House Bill 4—saying he supports all students—and speakers stressed the need to make college more affordable. WKYT
- ➤ Attorney General Russell Coleman announced that over $19.8M was awarded to 75 Kentucky organizations to fight the opioid crisis — the grants supported treatment, recovery, and prevention programs with some funds earmarked for western Kentucky. FOX 56
