  • Eckert’s Orchard (Versailles) installed Kentucky’s first frost fan one month ago to protect apple, peach, and blackberry blooms from frost damage as cold weather moves in this weekend.  WKYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Anthony French, a senior at Western Hills and a student at Franklin County Career and Technical Center (FCCTC), passed the TRACK exam on Friday, March 27, earning a year two apprenticeship with AE Electrical Solutions (sponsor) as he readies for OSHA 10 certification and a career in electrical work.  The State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky Senate passed Senate Bill 5 on Friday, which eases rules for schools buying locally grown produce + the measure now awaits the governor’s signature as Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell said it can boost students’ nutrition.  Kentucky Today
  • Deputy Josh Phipps will host a local Jeep ride on Friday, June 13 in Frankfort + the event aims to promote community outreach and encourage resident interaction.  92.7 The Wave
  • The Senate passed HB 510 on March 25, a bill that adds a safety step to pause the organ donation process if death status is unclear (to ensure ethical practices) before it reached Governor Beshear’s desk on Thursday. The measure aims to enhance secure organ donations.  Kentucky Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Franklin County’s softball team won its home opener Thursday at Sally Gaines Field, beating Frankfort 17-0 as the game was called in the third inning under the mercy rule. Coach Tracy Spickard said the Lady Flyers kept pressure — they will host Madison Southern Friday and Madison Central Tuesday.  The State Journal
