COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Dozens of Vietnam veterans gathered in Frankfort on Sunday, Mar. 29 for the annual ceremony to honor those who served in Vietnam and to support today’s service members + local speakers encouraged the crowd to show respect for veterans past and present. LEX 18
- ➤ Franklin County will hold its 15th Reforest Frankfort event on Saturday, April 18 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives (300 Coffee Tree Road) behind the Vietnam Veteran Memorial; the free event will offer tree planting, giveaways, and educational activities to boost community greening. - ➤ Local residents paid respects to over 1,100 fallen veterans at a traveling memorial wall displayed at Man O' War Haley-Davidson on Bryant Road in Hamburg yesterday during National Vietnam War Veteran's Day. LEX 18
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Josephine Sculpture Park will launch new health and art events including Wellness in the Wild, a monthly Sculpture Trail Club (free) this April and yoga sessions. The park also features a wind phone by a local artist and will host Barn Raisin’ on June 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. The State Journal
- ➤ Rev. Ron Moore Jr. (associate minister at First Corinthian Baptist Church) shared an inspiring message urging church members to be strong in their faith by following Paul's advice on wearing spiritual armor. His sermon reminds believers to stand firm against deception. The State Journal
- ➤ Vietnam War veterans enjoyed a free commemorative train ride today at the Bluegrass Railroad Museum in Versailles, where visitors expressed thanks for their service (some veterans noted the warm welcome was much better than in earlier years). WKYT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky schools can now include more local farm foods in meals after Senate Bill 5 passed and is waiting on the governor’s signature. The bill (effective immediately once filed) lets districts in USDA Child Nutrition programs bypass some bidding rules for Kentucky-grown products. The State Journal
