Good morning, Frankfort. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 2nd of April.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is upgrading its system to let 15-year-olds earn driver’s permits under House Bill 15, which took effect on March 27th; starting today, applicants can schedule appointments with the Kentucky State Police—those with prior appointments must reschedule— to avoid delays.  92.7 The Wave
  • Lawmakers passed eight bills with emergency clauses that are in effect immediately — they bypassed the usual 90-day waiting period. The measures limit the governor’s regulatory power, adjust Medicaid oversight and emissions fees, change conversion therapy rules, alter wildlife appointments, set new guidelines for artificial intelligence, allow revenue sharing for college athletes and provide school attendance relief — shaping state policy amid ongoing funding debates.  Louisville Public Media
  • Severe storms and heavy rain will hit Kentucky tonight with flood watches in effect, and emergency managers urge residents to prepare with emergency kits and evacuation plans. Officials warn that communities still recovering from February flooding should follow safety rules and check weather alerts for updates.  WTVQ
  • Gov. Andy Beshear signed a bill that frees $100 million for emergency relief for counties hit by February floods and severe weather. The law doubles the funding cap from $50 million and offers immediate access to new funds (Safe 4860) while allowing transfers of existing balances from local relief funds.  Kentucky Today
