- ➤ Baha’is of Frankfort and the Bluegrass area will host a free conference, “Working for a United World, One Community at a Time,” Saturday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Paul Sawyier Public Library’s Community Room where attendees join unity talks + enjoy lunch. The State Journal
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ 23-year-old Josh Martin runs a lawn care business with over 100 customers today but now faces extra fuel costs as gas prices climb; he pays about $200 more per week for his diesel truck while serving Lexington, Versailles, Nicholasville, and Frankfort. He has switched to a battery-operated mower and cut manpower temporarily to save on costs. LEX 18

- ➤ The Kentucky Castle will host its seventh Lavender Festival from June 26 to 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (including a Family Day on June 27 with face painting, a scavenger hunt, princess appearances, and a special release of Single Barrel Lavender Edition bourbon) at the castle's grounds. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Alumnus Frank Taylor will speak at Kentucky State commencement convocation on Saturday, May 9, at the William Exum Center. The event will feature ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to honor the Class of 2026. The State Journal
- ➤ Kentucky State students have mixed views on Senate Bill 185, which may add a polytechnic option while limiting majors and affecting the HBCU experience. The bill is headed to the governor’s desk after its final action in March. The State Journal
- ➤ Governor Beshear signed two education bills Tuesday morning to ease postsecondary applications and raise the daily earning cap for retired teachers (reflecting his education-first focus). WKYT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Andy Beshear ordered that state office flags be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, Apr. 11 to honor Kentucky airman Tech. Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt (who died on March 12 in a KC-135 crash supporting Operation Epic Fury); organizations are invited to join the tribute. Kentucky Today

- ➤ Max Gleason, a senior at Western Hills who recorded 78 kills in five matches, has been named Traditional Bank Athlete of the Week after his team won 4-1 in the Franktown Showdown. He will lead his team in Tuesday's match at Bryan Station. The State Journal
- ➤ Malachi Moreno—a former Mr. Basketball—declared for the 2026 NBA Draft and left his return to Kentucky open. He will join the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago from May 10 to 17. WTVQ
