CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Frankfort Inc. will host Derby Day Celebration on May 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Broadway, St. Clair and West Main with breakfast specials, a triple crown race, kids’ activities, live bluegrass and Derby cocktails while signups will be available soon.  The State Journal
  • Frankfort residents can win tickets to the Kentucky Author Forum featuring Hampton Sides — who will be interviewed by former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke — and receive a signed copy of his book. Check local details for how to enter the contest.  Louisville Public Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Kentucky’s unemployment rate for 2025 was 4.6%—above the national 4.3%—with durable manufacturing losing jobs while education and government sectors gained positions. The report shows mixed job trends across industries from last year.  The State Journal

  • Kentucky school districts can apply for the Farm to School Stars Recognition Program, which awards up to $10,000 for increasing local food purchases; applications are due by July 31, 2026, with winners announced during October’s Farm to School Month (supporting SB5 objectives).  Kentucky Today

  • The City of Frankfort and Sasaki invite residents to an in-person riverfront development open house Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at The Foundry on Broadway (317 W. Broadway), where attendees can view plans and share written feedback.  The State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • A University of Kentucky researcher is leading studies to develop new treatments for Lyme disease as blacklegged ticks become common in the commonwealth; recent surveys found 25% of ticks in 19 counties positive. The CDC advises residents to use insect repellent & wear long sleeves as warm weather approaches.  WKYT
