COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WKYT was named a finalist for the Service to Community Award — Medium Market after providing continuous coverage of the May 16 tornado outbreak and launching its Rebuilding Kentucky relief drive; winners will be honored June 9 at The Anthem in Washington, D.C.  WKYT
  • The Citizen Foster Care Review Board is asking community volunteers from 54 counties to review foster care cases for vulnerable children during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Applicants must complete six hours of training via Zoom and pass background checks before being recommended to local courts.  Kentucky Today

CULTURE NEWS

  • Friday, the Bluegrass Writers Coalition held its annual short story contest at the Capital Plaza Hotel. The event honored local authors by awarding first place to Matt Holman for 'Muskellunge,' second to Mark Llewellyn, and third to Brian Daldroph — inspiring future workshops and community feedback.  The State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources expanded Ross Creek Wildlife Management Area to nearly 1,300 acres after adding 361 acres in late 2025 — located along the Kentucky River near Lock and Dam 13. Hunters and anglers now access regulated hunting and fishing in a hardwood forest landscape.  Kentucky Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kentucky Women Infants and Children updated food packages to meet new USDA guidelines this month, adding more choices such as extra whole grains + canned fish, with families urged to review options at their next appointment.  Kentucky Today
  • Frankfort Regional Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, will join Network for Hope and community members tomorrow evening during Business After Hours for a flag-raising ceremony to honor Donate Life Month and highlight organ donation, featuring a kidney recipient testimonial and remarks from CEO John Ballard + Chamber leaders.  The State Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction at The Paddocks of Frankfort moves ahead as Target is set to open in July and BJ’s is scheduled for the fall — the $150 million mixed-use project, the largest in local history, is underway on U.S. 127 South near Interstate 64 Exit 53.  The State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Frankfort's baseball team went 2-1 over spring break after a loss to Montgomery County on April 6 and shut out Adair County and Edmonson County on Wednesday and Thursday. The Panthers will host Eminence on Monday and begin district play on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.  The State Journal
  • Frankfort’s Braylen Wells placed third in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump at AJ’s Heart of the Bluegrass Invitational Saturday in Mercer County and set personal records with leaps of 19 feet 9.25 inches and 41 feet 2.50 inches.  The State Journal
  • Franklin County’s baseball team went 1-3 in Florida last week. The Flyers won 9-3 against Cumberland on Wednesday, while FCHS lost 10-0 + 17-5 earlier in the week; the Flyers face Frankfort today at 5:45 p.m.  The State Journal
