EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fayette County Board Chair Tyler Murphy, who teaches in Boyle County, said in an interview with LEX 18 that he will run for re-election this fall despite a new state law—his comments also highlighted ongoing budget challenges and funding shortfalls affecting local schools.  LEX 18
  • Frankfort Independent Schools is studying its new calendar and might move kindergarten to begin on Aug. 3 instead of Aug. 4 to help bus riders and ease testing schedules. The board will review this option on Apr. 27.  The State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The weekly U.S. Drought Monitor report, released Thursday, shows nearly all of Kentucky faces drought conditions, with moderate drought affecting over half the state and extreme drought (new this year) seen in far western counties. Forecasts suggest rains may bring slight relief in the next two weeks.  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Department of Parks completed preservation and improvement projects at eight historic state park sites on Thursday using $75,000 from the America250KY initiative—restoring areas such as Big Bone Lick and Blue Licks Battlefield to help visitors learn about our state's rich history.  Kentucky Today
