  • A fire on Flat Creek Road in Franklin County just after midnight Wednesday killed two teenagers — a death investigation is underway.  WKYT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chicago-based Cresco Labs secured one of Kentucky's top medical cannabis cultivator licenses after 128 costly applications were submitted and a lottery award went to an LLC solely owned by its CEO Charlie Batchell — the Winchester facility will start with a 5,000 square foot operation and plans to expand soon as local hemp farmers challenge the process. The company said it will plant seeds by this summer and work with local contractors to build its operation.  Louisville Public Media

  • Steeplechase Elementary art teacher George Canfield won the Artsonia Education Leadership Award after building much of the school’s art program and using hands-on projects to engage his students, who have seen over 22,000 art pieces uploaded online—he taught his class about still life on April 29. His creative use of pop culture references keeps fifth graders excited about both traditional techniques and new media.  LINK nky

  • TSA said Blue Grass Airport and other regional airports will be very busy during Derby weekend as many people fly in for Oaks and Derby Day and the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. Travelers should allow extra time for check-in and security (at least two hours) and plan for long wait times when picking up rental cars.  WKYT
