- ➤ Franklin Countians can fight hunger on Saturday, May 9 when 63 letter carriers deliver donation bags at local mailboxes. Sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the annual food drive will support the Emergency Community Food Pantry and the St. Vincent de Paul pantry (serving local families). - ➤ Second Street School is searching for a new principal after Samantha Sams announced she will step down at the end of the academic year. The school is using stakeholder surveys and community input to guide the selection process. The State Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources will host a live auction on Monday, May 4 at 1 Sportsman Lane for surplus and confiscated hunting and fishing gear. Registration opens at 7 a.m. ET + the auction starts at 9:30 a.m. ET outdoors, rain or shine. Kentucky Today
- ➤ FEMA has announced $19.9 million in funding to build flood resilience across five states. In Kentucky, a $416,200 project in Floyd County will acquire and demolish five National Flood Insurance Program properties in the Wayland community. Kentucky Today
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Franklin County girls and Frankfort High boys won track team titles at the County Championships on Wednesday at Western Hills. The girls scored 61 points and the boys 68, with standout performances in sprints and jumps. The State Journal
- ➤ Franklin County and Western Hills high school baseball teams split their games this week; Thursday at WHHS the Flyers came from behind to win 5 to 4 in the 10th inning, while Wednesday Hills secured a 7 to 5 victory with strong early scoring. The State Journal
