At Keeneland, live music, a hat contest and wagering with $10 admission start at 10 a.m., while Downtown Frankfort holds a celebration at 9:30 a.m. with bluegrass and cocktails; Lexington schedules Disney on Ice at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. WKYT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Eighth-grader Jaloneé Cleveland was named WesBanco Student of the Week on Friday, May 1, after being chosen as a Better Without It ambassador (a program from the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission) to share a message against substance abuse. The State Journal
- ➤ On Thursday, Second Street School preschoolers raced pool-noodle horses in a mini-Derby at F.D. Wilkinson Gym (after a short walk from school) where they wore tissue-paper hats and received faux roses. Racers later enjoyed mint milkshakes, continuing the tradition now held indoors since the Singing Bridge closed. The State Journal

- ➤ The 2025 overdose report shows a 23% drop in overdose deaths in the state, with fentanyl and meth found in nearly half the cases; Governor Beshear credited Narcan doses and federal grants while warning that addiction challenges remain. LINK nky
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service alerted consumers that Mama Cozzi’s pizza products sold at Aldi may be contaminated with Salmonella — the recalled items were produced Feb. 17 to Feb. 26.
