CRIME NEWS

  • The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit on Wednesday upheld the death sentence for notorious killer Benny Lee Hodge—who was convicted in 1986 for murdering Tammy Acker and attacking her father in Letcher County—after he filed numerous appeals over the decades.  WKYT
  • A Bath County grand jury indicted a 29-year-old truck driver from Brooklyn for murder after he crashed into a tow truck near mile marker 124 on I-64 in September—he was watching YouTube on a tablet and trying to hide his actions—resulting in the death of the tow truck driver.  WKYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Franklin County Schools gathered Thursday night to honor Rylan and Bently Fields who were killed in a house fire, and community members joined to remember their lives.  LEX 18

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new law lets 15-year-olds apply for driver’s permits, so the state will host events offering over 1,500 written test appointments at 20 locations on Saturday, May 17. The online portal opens Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern, and applicants must bring all required documents to complete the test.  Kentucky Today
