Franklin County Fiscal Court celebrated the county's 230th birthday Saturday by giving back to the community that has suffered heavy losses + county leaders aimed to support local needs.

Many nonprofits across the state are asking for donations as part of the annual Kentucky Gives Day — the campaign aims to help charities support their programs.

Business owner Nathan Depenbrock said floods have left Bourbon Boat Kentucky River Tours 1½ months behind schedule and cost the business $45 to $55 thousand in refunds.

He hopes that clearing debris will let his larger boat return from the Ohio River & resume tours for guests & show that the Kentucky River remains special.

A Franklin County man, 44-year-old Dustin Fields, was charged with first-degree arson for allegedly setting his Flat Creek Road home on April 30, which killed his 13-year-old and 15-year-old sons + a judge on Monday sent his case to a grand jury while keeping his $2 million bond in place + as the investigation continues.

On May 13th, a hearing at the Kentucky Court of Appeals building saw Franklin County Judge Phillip Shepherd consider an attorney general request to dismiss a student lawsuit alleging the state failed to provide an adequate education—students said poor funding and low test scores have caused harm—and the legal fight over education quality continues. The suit names state legislators and revives debates over education that have long affected students.
