COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Paul Sawyier Public Library will host adult events this week, starting Monday 5:30 p.m. with a race discussion (featuring a TED Talk), Tuesday’s poetry reading with John W. McCauley, Wednesday’s yoga and book group, and Thursday’s virtual reality film viewing with a book discussion.  The State Journal
  • The Capital City Activity Center hosts in-person events Monday through Friday except Tuesday. Monday features billiards, Bingocize at 10 a.m., and Tai-Chi at noon, Wednesday includes Bible study and craft sessions, Thursday offers a senior box pick up at 1 p.m., and Friday features a drive-through free food service.  The State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rev. Ron Moore Jr published the fourth column of his Dressed for success series yesterday at First Corinthian Baptist Church, urging local Christians to rely on God’s strength and prepare for spiritual challenges. He drew on lessons from Ephesians 6:13 + encouraged steadfast faith in his community.  The State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky American Water filed a rate increase request with the Kentucky Public Service Commission to support $108 million in water system improvements slated for 2027. If approved, typical residential customers (using 4,030 gallons) will see an approximate $8 monthly increase.  WTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Parkinson’s support group will meet on Thursday, May 21 at First Christian Church at 6 p.m. for snacks and a discussion on managing apathy—one of Parkinson’s non-motor symptoms. Participants should use the Broadway-facing entrance as the discussion starts at 6:30 p.m.  The State Journal
