- ➤ Period Poverty Awareness Week was held May 11–17 following Gov. Beshear’s proclamation as local groups like Period Y’all and Ladies of Lexington combated period poverty by providing free products from pantries in seven counties. Over 19,000 items were distributed and donations remain welcome to keep supplies stocked. WKYT
- ➤ Frankfort will host a flood recovery & resilience celebration as community leaders and residents gather to recognize recent progress and plan future recovery enhancements. Officials say the event will offer clear updates and outline next steps for continued improvements. WKYT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At Franklin County High School, the KRUSH program meets weekly to help students with incarcerated family members build social skills and self-esteem with 45-minute sessions led by Mrs. Brand and Mrs. Chambers plus tailored lessons on coping and decision-making. The program offers a vital safe space for personal growth. The State Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Andy Beshear announced on Thursday that $6 million in grants from the Kentucky Pride Fund was awarded for 68 projects to reduce landfill waste, boost recycling and fund composting and hazardous waste events. Municipalities, universities and fiscal courts must provide a 25% local match. Kentucky Today

- ➤ Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources urges boaters to follow safe practices, such as wearing life jackets and using engine cut-off switches, as game wardens patrol Memorial Day weekend to check equipment and registrations.
