COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents gathered at Dolly Graham Park in South Frankfort on Sunday to mark one year since the historic flood with booths, an Easter egg hunt, live music, and free food & drinks. Local officials praised the community’s resilience and progress in recovery efforts.  The State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A GED graduation ceremony for 15 incarcerated women took place Thursday at Franklin County Regional Jail, marking the first such event since COVID — County Judge-Executive Michael Mueller said the achievement shows growth and perseverance that will help participants move forward.  The State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Beshear created a new task force to help Kentucky small businesses start and grow. Jason Slone from the Morehead-Rowan Chamber and local leaders will offer hands-on help to companies like Holbrook's Embroidery Plus, ensuring they remain strong in our community.  WTVQ
  • Former State Senator Dr. Ralph Alvarado is projected to win the GOP primary for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District after candidate Adam Perez Arquette dropped out, with competition from State Rep. Ryan Dotson, businessman Greg Plucinski, and Steve Shannon; the November election will fill the seat vacated by Rep. Andy Barr.  WKYT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sugar Foods of California recalled specific lots of Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons due to a potential Salmonella risk from milk powder; the recall affects products sold in Kentucky + 16 other states.  Kentucky Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Six local track athletes (four individual runners and two relay teams) qualified for the Class A State Track meet after strong performances at the Region 5 meet, and the championships are scheduled for Thursday at the University of Kentucky.  The State Journal
  • Franklin County’s tennis player Josiah Russell was named Traditional Bank Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, May 19 after a 13-1 regular season—he also earned a spot on the all-region team for the 11th Region. The junior aims to win a state championship next season.  The State Journal
