COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Golden Rod Tattoo is hosting its annual tattoo expo today to support Halfway Home Rescue, with all proceeds funding shelter care and kitten adoptions. The rain has not stopped a diverse crowd from gathering, and six kittens are on display—with three already adopted. LEX 18
- ➤ The Paul Sawyier Public Library is hosting a week of events beginning Monday, May 25. The library is closed on Monday for Memorial Day, and Tuesday brings Summer Reading Program registration plus an author talk with Patty Norris Peavler at 6 p.m., with additional adult sessions later in the week at the library and Mortimer Bibb’s Public House. - ➤ After closing on Memorial Day, the center will host a full week of programs. Tuesday offers billiards, ring toss, bingo and knitting; Wednesday features Bible study, music and exercise; Thursday includes game day and chair yoga; Friday provides free food, health classes and tai chi. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Grand Theatre (308 St. Clair) will re-open Saturday, Aug. 1 after renovating with new seating, updated lighting, and an improved HVAC system. A soft opening in July will feature children’s events, camps, and a film series, giving visitors a preview before the full celebration. The State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Jerry L. Sumney will speak at South Frankfort Presbyterian Church’s Adult Vacation Bible School on Monday, June 1 through Thursday, June 4. The community event will offer a light supper at 6 p.m. and a lecture/discussion at 6:30 p.m. at the church at Third and Steele streets. The State Journal
- ➤ Aubri Robinson received the Expree Credit Union Scholarship for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement (volleyball, Leadership Gifted and Talented, and Future Farmers of America) and will attend University of Kentucky this fall to study animal sciences. Her award honors her hard work at Franklin County High School. The State Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Blood Center is hosting the 'Red, White and Blue Bell' campaign until July 4 to boost donations needed for more than 70 hospitals, and donors get a Blue Bell Ice Cream voucher plus a United We Give T-shirt when they donate a pint of blood. Kentucky Today
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The 11th Region baseball and softball tournaments begin Monday with baseball games at Legends Field in Lexington and softball contests at Eastern Kentucky University. Frankfort teams open with the Panthers playing Madison Central at 4:30 p.m. + Franklin County facing Madison Southern at 2 p.m. The State Journal
- ➤ Franklin County’s Mariah Jackson won the 100-meter hurdles on Friday at the University of Kentucky in a tie-breaker finish with a time of 15.24 seconds. She is making a strong comeback after last year's knee surgery & now shows her determination at the state meet. The State Journal
