🎭 Culture
At sunrise on the Saturday before Memorial Day, volunteers placed thousands of American flags at Camp Nelson National Cemetery to honor Kentucky’s veterans—local youth groups and teams helped speed up the process.
🏛️ Government
At a ceremony at the Boone National Guard Center, families, state leaders and service members honored fallen citizen-soldiers as 22 names were added to the Kentucky National Guard Memorial, which now lists 317 individuals who died in duty since 1912.
The event also featured tributes for Major Latonia Rene Trowell and other heroes—reinforcing the need to remember their sacrifice.
🏥 Health
Gov. Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing encourage Kentuckians to check their hearing during National Better Speech-Language-Hearing Month this May—about 700,000 people in the state have hearing loss and many wait years to get help.
🏈 Sports
UK baseball will head to the NCAA tournament as the Wildcats earn a No. 3 seed in the Clemson regional and will face West Virginia in the opening round—marking the first time they have made three straight tournament bids; the team finished with a record of 29 wins and 24 losses overall and 13 wins and 17 losses in SEC play.
