COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Country music singer Jo Dee Messina partnered with the Renfro Valley Entertainment Center and Kentucky State Police to offer free tickets for her May 30 performance to tornado victims in southeastern Kentucky—troopers in London handed out tickets on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while supplies lasted.  FOX 56
  • Sarah Rome lost over five feet of flood water in her home in April and has lived with relatives for eight weeks while making repairs. Her work includes major tasks—such as a full electrical replacement costing tens of thousands of dollars—and she expects to return home in about a month.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • FEMA is opening new Disaster Recovery Centers to help Kentuckians affected by severe weather and flooding from disasters in February, April and May, offering aid for home repairs, temporary lodging and lost personal property (applications for May tornado damage are due by July 23 and for April storms until June 25). SBA staff will also be available at these centers to support eligible homeowners and renters with low interest loans.  Kentucky Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced on Tuesday (after a May inspection) that Pan-African Food Distributors’ Louisville facility had a rodent infestation and droppings on several product containers, prompting state health officials to halt operations and order a full recall of all affected items. Consumers are advised to check their homes and clean surfaces (if they have these products) while retailers must not sell or serve any contaminated items.  Kentucky Today
