COMMUNITY NEWS

  • God’s Pantry Food Bank announced a leadership change as Michael Halligan left after a decade of service; chief operating officer Danielle Bozarth—bringing 30 years of experience—will serve as interim president to continue the fight against hunger in central and eastern Kentucky.  WKYT
  • A family-friendly car show will take place today in Frankfort to raise funds for community outreach programs, marking the fourth annual event hosted by NewsKSP.  WKYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Frankfort Independent Schools Board approved a 2% raise for all staff last Wednesday night at its regular meeting, citing a healthy contingency fund. The raise will be included in the tentative budget uploaded to the state Department of Education for the 2026-27 school year.  The State Journal
  • Frankfort High senior Hannah Hayes was named WesBanco Student of the Week after advancing through two FBLA rounds; she will attend the FBLA National Leadership Conference (June 29–July 2) in San Antonio to boost her public speaking skills.  The State Journal
  • Kentucky State University’s Board of Regents approved a new academic plan required under Senate Bill 185 at a special-called meeting on Thursday. The plan — grouping programs into six academic areas to support a polytechnic focus — will be sent to the Council on Postsecondary Education by June 1.  The State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Beshear announced his administration has doubled licensed mental health providers + expanded crisis services like the 988 Lifeline as Mental Health Awareness Month ends today. He also signed laws to boost support for students and others in need across town.  Kentucky Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Franklin County's softball team fell 1-0 to Bryan Station in the regional semifinal on Thursday at George Rogers Clark as strong pitching and defense did not overcome hitting struggles, ending their season at 21-10.  The State Journal
  • Kentucky won a 6-5 game over Wake Forest in Morgantown on Friday, May 29, advancing in the NCAA baseball tournament. The Wildcats rallied with a go-ahead run in the top of the ninth + will play the winner of West Virginia versus Binghamton today at 5 p.m.  WTVQ
