COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tickets are on sale for Woodford Humane Society’s Summer Gala with discounted rates available until June 7; the fundraiser will take place at Keeneland on July 25 with local emcee Victor Puente.  WKYT
  • Residents and visitors can fish for free this weekend during Kentucky’s annual free fishing event organized by the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Families and new anglers should follow regular fishing regulations while enjoying local events — access free resources on fishing basics and gear loans.  The State Journal
  • On Saturday, Marcus Kennedy (3) cooled off at Dolly Graham Park's splash pad during a fun family outing, with his parents nearby. His playful moment highlights a bright and lively day in our local community.  The State Journal
  • Four car washes are planned this summer to fund Franklin County High School’s prom at Pizza Inn and Frisch’s. They will be held from June 20 to July 19, with individual times from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  The State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • LPM News and Kentucky Public Radio won three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for their work covering data centers, government surveillance and civic transparency. The winners will advance to the national competition in August (with key reporting by Morgan Watkins and Justin Hicks).  Louisville Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Frankfort Regional Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, unveiled its new transport ambulance Monday, June 1, at its campus in Frankfort. Staffed by transport paramedics, the 24/7 unit will speed patient transfers and help local EMS with interfacility care — a win for the community.  The State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Franklin County’s Madison McCoy and Chloe Simpson were named to the 11th Region softball all-tournament team, and Frankfort’s Will Beshear joined the baseball team after teams were announced last week (Sayre won baseball while Madison Central won softball).  The State Journal
  • Frankfort High senior Teagan Crowdus signed with Hocking College to play baseball and football in Nelsonville, Ohio. He will join the college team as he continues his athletic career.  The State Journal
