- ➤ Researchers from the University of Kentucky study said new maple syrup production could boost our economy by circulating up to $25 million, creating over 1,300 jobs, and adding about $1.6 million in taxes. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Kentucky Public Service Commission is holding a series of public meetings to get input on adding a new overlay area code since available 502 numbers will run out by the third quarter of 2027. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. in Georgetown on Tuesday, in Louisville on Thursday, on June 16 in Carrollton, and on June 17 in Frankfort + the commission wants to hear from locals, businesses, and the telecom industry before choosing a geographic split or overlay option. - ➤ FEMA reported that it approved over $66 million in housing and other aid for Kentucky households hit by severe weather disasters, including more than $45.6 million for 7,000 households from February floods, over $19.9 million for 2,500 households from April storms, and over $800,000 for damages from May storms that claimed 19 lives. Affected residents must file by June 25 for April storm help and by July 23 for May storm assistance—FEMA remains available for questions on February flood applications despite the May 25 closure.
