  • God’s Pantry Food Bank is feeding children who may miss meals during summer break as school meal programs pause. The food bank works to support local families—providing food assistance when schools are closed.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Coleman joined a letter signed by AGs from 36 states — urging Congress to pass the Youth Substance Use Prevention and Awareness Act to fund drug education programs for youth. He said the bill would help support prevention efforts like Kentucky’s Better Without It campaign.  Kentucky Today
  • Gov. Beshear provided an update yesterday on initiatives that include lowering the gas tax starting July, launching the Pre-K for All tour, awarding over $6 million for electric grid improvements, and offering a $500,000 grant to clean up Frankfort's Holmes Street Corridor — he also outlined changes in driver licensing, severe weather recovery efforts, and named the University of Louisville and Murray State baseball teams as Team Kentucky All-Stars while signing a proclamation for Gun Violence Awareness Day.  92.7 The Wave

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kentucky law passed this year will exempt freestanding birth centers with four beds or less from needing a certificate of need—giving midwives like Shannon Long a clearer path to open centers that offer a home-like setting for births that might otherwise require long trips to neighboring states. The law also sets safety measures including accreditation, a hospital proximity requirement, and a licensed doctor on staff, while regulators work on detailed rules due by December 1.  Louisville Public Media
