GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A parent (who asked to remain anonymous) raised concerns about the state’s medical marijuana program after getting a medical cannabis card and then asking county officials and CPS for clear rules on how its use might affect child custody. Officials said they review each case based on evidence of danger, but the parent said they did not receive clear guidance.  FOX 56
  • Frankfort’s opioid abatement commission has approved a special grant opportunity with a $5 million fund to support new research and innovative methods for addressing opioid use disorder and preventing overdoses. Applications will open online on July 1 and close on December 20 + decisions are expected by March/April.  Kentucky Today
  • Franklin County officials urged caution after recent elevated water levels led to several rescues and ongoing safety concerns. Although the creek’s level dropped from eight feet last Saturday to three feet today (rushing currents and floating debris still pose risks), local officials advise boaters and paddlers to check conditions before heading out.  LEX 18

  • Central Kentucky homebuyers continue to face challenges as private companies—often LLCs—limit affordable housing supply and push prices higher across the region. A local buyer in Nicholas County said he discovered many homes were owned by investors and now plans to build his own house to avoid bidding wars in a competitive market.  LEX 18
