CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky State Police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide in Lee County after bodies were found during a Monday welfare check - officials believe Bearl Ashcraft Jr. shot his girlfriend Hayley Davidson and then took his own life. WTVQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Russell Coleman announced (today) that Kentucky will receive an additional $73.1 million from Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family as part of opioid crisis settlements, bringing the state's total to more than $1 billion. Officials said half of these funds will go to an opioid abatement commission while the other half will be allocated to cities and counties for prevention, treatment and recovery programs. - ➤ Governor Beshear announced Tuesday that Dr. John Langefeld will be the new Commissioner of the Kentucky Department for Public Health effective July 1—he brings over 30 years of health care leadership and has served as the chief medical officer for Medicaid Services. He succeeds Dr. Steven Stack, who will become the Cabinet for Health and Family Services secretary on the same day. LEX 18

- ➤ Governor Andy Beshear announced on June 17th that Dr. John Langefeld, who served as medical director for Health Insights and Innovation, became Kentucky’s new health commissioner while Dr. Steven Stack took on a new role as secretary for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services—the change reshuffles state health leadership. - ➤ Meijer has recalled certain packages of Frederik’s Dark Chocolate Almonds sold in Kentucky and five other states because they may include dark chocolate-covered cashews that are not listed on the label—putting people with cashew allergies at risk. The recall covers black stand-up pouches and 8-count multi-pack boxes with sell-by dates in May—no illnesses have been reported so far. Kentucky Today
