God's Pantry Food Bank said it is deeply disappointed with the final passage of H.R.

1, which adds new work rules for families and shifts SNAP costs to state governments — leaving many households with tough choices. The law will affect nearly 600,000 Kentuckians, and food banks worry rural counties will face extra challenges with fewer childcare options and limited job opportunities.

Gov. Andy Beshear said the proposed Medicaid cuts will force 35 hospitals to close and remove health care coverage for 200,000 Kentuckians; many residents may have to drive much farther for emergency care (a serious risk for rural areas).

Kentucky is set to lose $12.3 billion in Medicaid funds over 10 years if the planned cuts go into effect; Governor Beshear warned that 35 hospitals will close and 200,000 residents will lose coverage — forcing some to travel nearly an hour for emergency care.

Every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Frankfort, the Bluegrass Wildwater Association holds rolling sessions at a quiet pool off the Elkhorn where new kayakers learn how to flip their capsized boats using a roll technique—an important skill for safe whitewater paddling.

Acting president Hanley Loller and longtime paddler Liam Burke say the sessions help calm fears and build confidence on the water.
