On Friday, the City of Frankfort partnered with Liberty Hall Historic Site and Downtown Frankfort Inc. to host the Liberty Hall-er America 250 festival at Riverview Park, where free music, food trucks, and historical talks engaged the community + bands Hancock and Shouse, The Local Honeys, and Cole Chaney performed.
A local man repaired the gravestone of the groomer—who cared for the famed thoroughbred Man o’ War—to honor his contributions to local racing history.
The repair was completed recently at the groomer’s family cemetery in the community.
Kentucky State University students visited the Frankfort Wastewater Treatment Plant on May 22 — a rainy field trip that linked classroom water quality lessons to real-world infrastructure challenges as faculty and Sewer Department officials explained system responses to heavy storm inflow.
During the Fourth of July weekend, fire crews in Georgetown and Frankfort responded to calls about fireworks that caused grass fires, a structure fire, and medical emergencies while officials reminded residents to dispose of used fireworks properly.
Fire marshals noted city rules restrict larger airborne fireworks.
Gov. Beshear announced Monday that six communities and agencies will receive $11.5 million in federal grants to assess, clean up, and redevelop brownfields.

Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams launched the Kentucky Time Capsule Project Monday to mark America’s 250th anniversary and invite citizens to share stories, photos and artwork.
The bourbon barrel time capsule — symbolizing heritage — will tour the state starting with Somerset Community College from July 6–19 before being stored until 2051.
