- ➤ The Kentucky Division of Water & Department for Public Health lifted the harmful algal bloom advisory at Herrington Lake after tests at 19 sites showed low toxin levels. Officials advised lake users to resume recreational activities & remain alert for any future blooms. Kentucky Today
- ➤ Officials with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources say young male black bears are moving from eastern Kentucky into more populated areas this summer as they search for habitat and mates. Residents are advised to secure food sources and keep a safe distance if a bear is sighted. Kentucky Today

- ➤ The Kentucky Department of Revenue reminded businesses that several tax deadlines in July will fall on July 10, 15, 21, 25, and 31 when filings must be made via MyTaxes — filers can check disaster relief options for the February 14 severe storms and flooding. Kentucky Today

- ➤ Kentucky highway safety officials launched a month-long campaign to remind drivers to slow down and obey speed limits as travel increases this summer—Gov. Andy Beshear and Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray stressed extra caution in work zones and noted that speeding penalties will be tougher. Kentucky Today
- ➤ The Kentucky Public Service Commission approved EKPC’s plan to build a new $1.37 billion combined cycle gas turbine unit at Cooper Station near Somerset—this project will add 745 MW of capacity, new transmission lines, and a 40-mile gas infrastructure extension by December 2030. The commission also backed retrofits costing $260.8 million for existing units and modifications to DSM and energy efficiency programs that will increase first-year investments to $7.49 million in 2026.
