- ➤ Jeanna Fint and her husband Nicholas Abner are still recovering from the April flood and remain at the Capitol Plaza Hotel as they work to repair their home before their baby arrives early September — they face challenges with an incomplete insurance settlement. Franklin County officials will hold a public meeting today at 6:30 p.m. at the Fiscal Court for residents to learn about the Emergency Watershed Protection Floodplain Buyout Program. WKYT

- ➤ Kentucky students with disabilities at three area technology centers will soon use virtual reality field trips to explore careers in construction, marine transportation and tourism in a new partnership between the Kentucky Department of Education and CareerViewXR — the videos will be available at centers in Monroe, Wayne County and the Paducah Innovation Hub by the end of August. - ➤ The National Student Clearinghouse report shows that Kentucky improved its one-year undergraduate persistence by 9.8 percentage points and retention by 7.9 points from 2023 to 2024 to rates of 85.3 percent and 74 percent, which are above national averages — the Council on Postsecondary Education said these gains were due to changes like removing non-credit remedial courses and boosting dual credit programs in high school. - ➤ Eastern Kentucky officials stress the need to be prepared for flash flooding as deadly floods in Texas and past losses in Pike County show the risks. Pike County Emergency Management Director Nee Jackson said past floods damaged over 4,000 sites—so residents in flood-prone areas must sign up for weather alerts and have evacuation plans ready. WKYT
