  • Frankfort father Dustin Fields, 44, who faced murder, arson and animal torture charges from the deadly April 30 fire that killed his two teenage sons and a dog, was due for arraignment Friday on new charges of allegedly sexually abusing a 4-year-old from 2007—2009 following his indictment last week.  WTVQ
  • Gov. Beshear announced Friday that the Kentucky State Police finished Operation Summer Heat 2.0—yielding 197 arrests, 490 charges, and the seizure of thousands of grams of drugs, 82 firearms, cash, and a stolen vehicle—in a crackdown on suspected drug networks.  Kentucky Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky educators are raising concerns about law SB 181 that took effect on June 27—requiring all district employees to use traceable communication systems when contacting students—and its broad language that may limit safe and supportive outside school interactions. A petition with nearly 12,000 signatures asks lawmakers to clarify exemptions and protect teachers from losing their licenses—especially when volunteer roles are affected.  Louisville Public Media

  • On July 11th, Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman urged the Council for Postsecondary Education to stop offering in-state tuition to undocumented high school graduates—he argued this policy violates federal law by giving benefits not available to all students.
