The Kentucky Department of Education announced Tuesday that 11 schools, including Beechwood High School and Farristown Middle School, were chosen as Spotlight Schools for strong academics and new teaching ideas — a move that will let them share tips for improving student success.

The schools will post story cards to guide other schools in raising achievement statewide.

The IAN Alert system—created by a 2024 bill to help locate missing children on the autism spectrum—was activated on Tuesday when 5-year-old Silas Chearer left his Hart County home at 8 a.m. and was found dead two hours later, with law enforcement reporting that the circumstances remain unknown.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced Tuesday a $15.6 million investment to upgrade the electric grid at state parks that serve vacationers and shelter families during severe weather events—each of the projects at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park and Kenlake State Resort Park will receive $7.8 million, with work beginning this fall and expected to finish in 2026.
